The Agenda in İzmir is “Climate Change”

İzmir Metropolitan Municipality received a grant of 150 thousand Euros within the scope of “Grant Programme on Increasing the Capacity in the Area of Climate Change in Turkey” financed by European Union and used by means of Ministry of Environment and Urbanisation. The project aims to help adaptation to the EU climate policy and regulations gradually  to strengthen the efforts to decrease the common climate change effects in Turkey and to increase public awareness.The grant fund İzmir received will be used in order to form the 2050 and 2100 climate models in the city and to prepare plans to adapt to climate change.

The project “A Framework for Resistant Cities: Green Oriented Adaptation” prepared by İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Environmental Protection and Control Room Directorate, Healthy Cities and Clean Energy Branch will be conducted together with Landscape Surveys Association. The project studies were begun on 15 September 2017. 

The aim is to create a resistant urban area in climate change by using, developing and supporting the green infrastructure with the project which will last 18 months. 
 
What will be done within the context of the project? 
Climate models will be formed for the years 2050 and 2100 in İzmir. 
An urban infrastructure system will be mapped for Balçova, which is chosen as a pilot area and space use and change models will be prepared. 
Urban ecosystem services will be mapped. 
Plan decisions will be formed for İzmir to be able to adapt to climate change. 
A guidebook that contains all the information obtained and formed throughout the project will be prepared. 
Trainings and seminars will be conducted for other municipalities, non-governmental organizations, academics, students and relevant institutions.
